Parola agli esperti: Luke Thompson, FOX Sports - parte 2 NBA e NCAABB

Dopo l'articolo sul football, torniamo a parlare con Luke Thompson di Fox Sports.

Questa volta l'argomento sarà il basket, sia NBA che della NCAA.

Come già detto nello scorso articolo Mr Thompson segue maggiormente le squadre del Midwest e, di conseguenza, ci darà anche un approfondimento su di esse.

Iniziamo dalla NBA, cosa ci dobbiamo aspettare?.

"LeBron’s return to Cleveland gives the league all the intrigue it needs, and everything else is just a bonus."

Il ritorno di LeBron a Cleveland fornirà tutto ciò che renderà intrigante la Lega, tutto il resto sarà solo un bonus.

Passiamo quindi nello specifico ai Pacers, dove potranno arrivare con George infortunato e Stephenson andato altrove? Hanno perso il 50% della loro forza come dicono alcuni?

"Yeah, it’s tough to see Indiana remaining among the league’s elite without those two guys, which is really a shame, because George was a rising star in the NBA. Now Indiana has to rely on Roy Hibbert, David West and George Hill? Yeah, that’s going to be a problem. They’re going to be fighting for a playoff spot."

Sì, è dura vedere Indiana rimanere nell'elite della Lega senza questi due ragazzi ed è un vero peccato, perchè George era una stella nascente nella NBA.

Ora Indiana deve fare affidamento su Roy Hibbert, David West e George Hill?

Si, e questo sarà un problema. Lotteranno per un posto ai playoff.

Chiudiamo questi due articoli con Mr Thompson palando del College Basketball, partendo dai Missouri Tigers ed i Saint Louis Billikens.

Quale stagione dobbiamo aspettarci da questi due college e quali sono le squadre migliori delle loro conference?

"It’s going to be a rebuilding year for the Tigers and Billikens. Missouri lost four starters, including all three guys who averaged more than six points per game last season. St. Louis lost all five starters, but at least they’re not dealing with a new coach. Both of these teams could be good in the future, but it’s hard to see either one even making the NCAA tournament this season.

Obviously, Kentucky should be the best team in the SEC. The Wildcats are loaded and might well be the best team in the country. It’s a little tougher to say in the A-10, but VCU looks to be the clear favorite. They’re poised to rebound from that heartbreaking NCAA tournament loss and wreak havoc against opposing backcourts once again."

Sarà un anno di ricostruzione per Tigers e Billikens.

Missouri ha perso quattro del quintetto, compresi tutti e tre i ragazzi che facevano più di sei punti di media a partita la scorsa stagione. St. Louis ha perso tutto il quintetto, ma almeno non avranno un nuovo allenatore.

Entrambe le squadre saranno buone in futuro, ma sarà dura vedere una delle due fare il Torneo NCAA in questa stagione.

Ovviamente, Kentucky dovrebbe essere la migliore squadra nella SEC. I Wildcats sono carichi e dovrebbero essere la miglior squadra del Paese. E' un po' più difficile dire nella A10, ma VCU appare essere la chiara favorita. Loro sono sull'orlo di rimbalzare dallo straziante Torneo NCAA perso e devastare gli avversari una volta ancora.

Squadre nuove nel Missouri, quali saranno i giocatori da seguire in questi due College?

"Missouri is going to need some big numbers from sophomore forward Johnathan Williams III, who told me he wants to average 19 points and 10 rebounds per game. That seems ambitious, and the Tigers also expect big things out of freshman Jakeenan Grant, a talented 6-8 forward.

SLU needs Austin McBroom to lead the way, as he’s the only returner to average more than four points per game last season. Guard Miles Reynolds looks to be the best of the freshman, but it’s hard to tell before they step on the court."

Missouri avrà bisogno di qualche grande numero dell'ala sophomore Johnathan Williams III, che mi ha detto che vuole tenere una media di 19 punti e 10 rimbalzi a partita. Sembra ambizioso ed i Tigers si aspettano grandi cose anche dal freshman Jakeenan Grant, una talentuosa ala di 6-8.

SLU ha bisogno che Autin McBroom segni la strada,poichè è l'unico tra quelli che tornano dopo la scorsa stagione ad aver avuto almeno 4 punti a partita. La guardia Miles Reynolds appare essere il migliore dei freshman, ma sarà dura dirlo prima che mettano piede in campo.

Tanti freshman nelle due squadre, come giudica il loro reclutamento?

"If you’re comparing the two, there’s no doubt Missouri wins, which isn’t surprising since they’re the bigger school. The Tigers have some potential in the recruiting class, though I’m not sure how much of it will be realized this season. Transfers Deuce Bello and Keith Shamburger will also be critical to success.
 

Honestly, I don’t know much about the Billikens’ recruiting class. You’d think their recent success would help, but I guess we’ll find out."

Se fai il paragone tra le due, non ci sono dubbi che Missouri vinca, non è una sorpresa dato che è la scuola più grande. I Tigers  hanno del potenziale nella recriuting class anche se non sono sicuro di quanto potrà essere espresso questa stagione. I transfers Deuce Bello e Keith Shamburger saranno cruciali per il successo.

Onestamente non conosco molto della recruiting class dei Billiken. Si potrebbe pensare che i loro recenti successi possano averli aiutati, ma credo che lo scopriremo.

Parlando di reclutamento, chi ha lavorato meglio in Division I?

"I don’t follow recruiting all that closely, but Kentucky, Arizona, Duke and Kansas certainly brought in some great players, as they always do."

Non seguo tutto il recruiting da vicino, ma Kentucky, Arizona, Duke e Kansas certamente hanno preso alcuni buoni giocatori, come fanno sempre.

A proposito di Kentucky, che squadra vedremo?

"There’s an unusual amount of experienced talent on Coach Cal’s roster. Obviously, the Harrison brothers were a lot better at the end of the season than they were at the start, and there’s every reason to believe forwards Willie Cauley-Stein and Alex Poythress will continue to grow. If the freshmen live up to expectations, this team could be scary good."

C'è una inusuale quantità di esperienza nel roster di coach Calipari. Ovviamento i fratelli Harrison giocarono meglio alla fine della stagione rispetto all'inizio e ci sono tutte le ragioni per credere che le ali Willie Cauley-Stein e Alex Poyhress continuini a crescere. Se i freshmen terranno fede alle aspettative, questa squadra potrebbe essere spaventosamente forte.

E Wichita State? Perso Early, potrà ripetersi col solo Baker?

"It’s tough to see them repeating what they did last year, just because that happens so rarely in college basketball. A lot of things have to go right. But they’re still a very good team in a weak conference, so I’d expect another strong season, even if they don’t go undefeated."

Sarà dura vederli ripetere quello che fecero lo scorso anno, solo perchè succede raramente nel college basket. Molte cose devono andare bene, ma continuano ad essere una buona squadra in una conference debole, quindi mi aspetterei un'altra buona stagione anche se non finiranno imbattuti.

Vediamo ora 5 giocatori da seguire nella prossima stagione.

Marcus Foster, Kansas State:

One of the best sophomores in the country and a shooting guard poised to carry an underrated team.

Uno dei migliori sophomore del Paese e una guardia tiratrice pronta a trascinare una squadra sottovalutata

Aaron Harrison, Kentucky:

He’s the leader of the Wildcats offense who showed a remarkable propensity for making clutch plays and could be even better this season.

E' il leader dell'attacco dei Wildcats ha dimostrato una spiccata propensione per fare giocate decisive e potrebbe essere anche meglio in questa stagione.

Brandon Ashley, Arizona:

Some might have forgotten after his season-ending injury in early February, but Ashley was probably the best player on a very good Arizona team.

Qualcuno potrebbe averlo dimenticato dopo l'infortunio che gli ha chiuso la stagione all'inizio di febbraio, ma Ashley era probabilmente il miglior giocatore in una squadra di Arizona molto buona.

Jahlill Okafor, Duke:

Maybe the best freshman in the nation trying to lead the Blue Devils back to glory.

Forse il miglior freshman della Nazione proverà a guidare i Blue Devils a tornare alla gloria

Georges Niang, Iowa State:

If you haven’t seen Niang this offseason, he looks like a completely different player. Big 12 teams should be very afraid of what a stronger, more athletic Niang can do with all that craftiness.

Se non avete visto Niang questa offseason, sembra un giocatore completamente differente. Le squadre della BIG12 dovrebbero aver paura di cosa possa fare con tutta quella furbizia un Niang più forte e più atletico.

Concludiamo con 5 squadre da seguire per il prossimo campionato.

Kentucky: 

This might sound familiar, but the Wildcats are head-and-shoulders above everyone else in the country in terms of pure talent. Can they come together as a team?

Questo dovrebbe suonare famigliare, ma i Wildcats sono testa e spalle sopra qualunque altra squadra del Paese in termini di talento individuale puro. Potranno andare avanti come una squadra?

Duke:

Two outstanding freshman make the Blue Devils a title contender.

Due eccellenti freshman fanno dei Blue Devils una contendente per il titolo.

Arizona:

Don’t overlook these Wildcats, who also brought in a fantastic freshmen class.

Non trascurate i Wildcats, che hanno anche portato una fantastica classe di freshmen.

Texas:

The Longhorns return just about everyone and added some solid new talent, but do they have what it takes to challenge Kansas for a Big 12 title?

I Longhorns tornano praticamente tutti ed hanno aggiunto qualche nuovo solido talento, ma hanno quello che serve per sfidare Kansas per il titolo della BIG 12?

Virginia:

The Cavaliers came out of nowhere last season thanks to lockdown defense and a slow tempo game, but they faded down the stretch and won’t be surprising anyone this year.

I Cavaliers oscirono dal nulla la scorsa stagione grazie ad una asfissiante difesa ed una ritmo lento di gioco, ma si sono persi lungo la strade e quest'anno non sorprenderanno nessuno.
